Change?
1/9/2002
Some months ago, everyone believed the Swedish electioon was a foregone conclusion.
No longer. It's increasingly open what the voters will say on September 15.
Opinion polls are reporting that the gap between the leftist government bloc and the centrist and centre-right bloc is diminshing.
And the social democrats have declined rapidly during the weeks of election campaign.
The reason lies in their absence of credible policies.
They have made it a policy not to have any policies.
And this has made it easier for the centre-right partiets to gain the attention of the electorate.
When issues of substance are coming into the debate, the government is increasingly on the defensive.
The days ahead will be decisive.
